Say Again?: Germany and Italy were not involved in the Pacific War

The Axis powers of World War 2 were Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and Imperial Japan. While it is true that the Japanese bore the bulk of fighting in the Pacific and Asia, that was not to say that Germany and Italy were not involved in the Pacific War.

Let me cover some examples.

Nazi Germany supported Nationalist China during the start of the Second Sino-Japanese War
Nationalist China and Nazi Germany closely cooperated since 1926, only breaking off their alliance in 1941. This was when Germany decided to sign an alliance with Japan.

This was evident as the elite Nationalist troops were German-trained and used German equipment. They also were supplied by Germany via the Trans-Siberian railway.

Nazi Germany ran submarine raids in the Pacific and Indian Ocean
Nazi Germany assigned a group of U-boats (German submarines) to cover the Pacific. With their base in Japanese-occupied Penang (now in Malaysia), they often targeted Allied transport vessels.

Fascist Italy used transport submarines
After the Germans declared war on the Soviets in 1941, the only way to get supplies from Asia were to run submarines via the Indian Ocean. One of these was RM Comandante Cappellini

Nazi Germany raided the Pacific island of Nauru
Germany also executed a successful attack on Nauru, disrupting Australia's and New Zealand's supply of phosphate.

Conclusion
Germany and Italy were involved in the war in a limited fashion.
