Relics of War: Pasir Panjang Pillbox

The pillbox in 2019
As you walk around Singapore, you may encounter some relics of the war. One of them is Pasir Panjang Pillbox. Built in the 1930s, it provided shelter from shelling and window slits to use the firearms in. Now, while the exterior of the pillbox can be examined, the interior is out-of-bounds.

Located along Pasir Pangjang Road, the Pasir Panjang was allegedly used during the Battle of Singapore by the 1st Malay Regiment. However, no evidence of its use has been recorded or witnessed. No visible damage is seen on the concrete exterior, although years of weathering may have eroded any marks.

Nevertheless, the pillbox stands testament to a relic of a past war.
